CRWR term 2 — Intermediate Writing Poetry 3 credits Sheryda Warrener In every constructive bit of advice offered in the workshop is a secret message to ourselves about our own work. Through mini-lectures and friendly, accomplice-framed group workshops, you will learn to take risks in your writing.
You can expect interactive lectures, small group sessions for feedback, and individual writing time. Because it is a small workshop class, assignments can be modified as needed for students who are already familiar with comics theory and craft.
The format will be that of a multi-genre workshop, with student manuscripts as primary texts as well as some assigned reading. At the end of the term, you will submit a revision of one of your pieces along with a reflection on your revision process.
To do so, we will explore traditional and contemporary forms, and learn how to manipulate these for our own purposes. The course will also guide students through the process of rewriting their work.
This course is open to all graduate levels, and CNF experience is not required. In addition, through close collaboration with CITR, the university campus radio station, students will get training on sound editing equipment and get the chance to try their hand at actual podcast production.

With a focus on form how we tell true stories; what form is best suited to telling this true story and content what facts to include; what facts to leave out; how to structure scenes so they are compelling; etc.

While the emphasis is on your own writing, regular attendance and spirited participation are essential. For your final portfolio, you will have the opportunity to revise any or all of your story submissions in consultation with the instructor.
Many fiction workshops move toward polished final draft too quickly and encourage feedback that is largely editorial. Graduate with career skills, experience, and a network of professional contacts that will give you a competitive edge after graduation.
Because participation is a crucial component of the workshop, you will give critical and tactfully honest feedback to the other participants about their writing. The first submission is memoir, and the second is your choice.
